As you may have seen from the blogs on the StoneWater website, there has been a disastrous fire in Apple Canyon where Tenshin Roshi’s Yokoji Zen Mounta
in Center is located. Although the Center buildings were saved from the fire – thanks to some heroic firefighting and the community’s own previous brush clearing efforts – the rain which followed the fire has caused disastrous flash flooding through the Center. There is extensive damage which you can see here.
The latest from Tenshin Roshi is:
We just had a geologist round yesterday and he recommends no one stay over when there is a chance of rainstorm. So right now, we are in a sort of limbo until the geologist report comes out in ten days. This creates many challenges, the main being financial as half our income comes from guest retreats. So we are looking at our options. On the positive side, we have restored most of our utilities, as of yet, no drinking water. We have done a lot of water diversion in the lower meadows and below the Buddha Hall and are gradually working upstream where the big problems are: unconsolidated debris, including 16ft boulders. I am not sure if I want to put the bridge back yet! The geologist and hydrologist say that we have about two years until it is “safe”. Ups and downs, but wonderful life goes on! We will keep you posted now that internet seems to be restored, more valley damage photos on the way. Many thanks for your concern, good thoughts, and prayers. All the Best, Tenshin
There is now an international appeal to help raise the money to help the ZMC community to rebuild. We would like to be part of this. If you would like to help please send a donation to the bank account, details below and we will collect it all together and send it as one sum. There will also shortly be a PayPal button added to the Trust page (see under the StoneWater tab) of the website.
Thank you for any help you can give.
