Jubilee celebrations at Stonewater Lakes

Suigen at the June sesshin, Stonewater Lakes.
I attended the June retreat at Stonewater Lakes which coincided with the Jubilee celebrations. On Tuesday 5th June, after evening sitting, we climbed Whale Knipe (the hill which dominates the view from the Zendo) to see the beacon fire lit at 10.15pm. It was a clear evening and, as the fire was lit, a perfect full moon started to rise above the hills to the east. This can be seen in one of the photos. Then, as the Knipe fire blazed into life, other fires could be seen in the distance, marking the surrounding fell tops of both Yorkshire and Cumbria. A memorable sight. We then stumbled back down the hill in the darkness, very mindful of the need for sleep before that very early wake up bell. Please see photos.
